New commission for wedding stationery

Wedding stationery design, 2017, date stamp and ink on paper,

I have just finished this design for a wedding in July for Celia and Matt. It will adorn the table plan as well as each table place name card. The image is made up of the wedding date and as with the invitation design I finished earlier in the year, the method needed to be simplified, in order for the date to be clear.

This was the first time I had created a floral design and I’m so pleased with how it turned out. The wedding is taking place at The River Cottage so the idea for the design was to bring in elements of the English countryside, notes of nature and wholesome homegrown-ness, so I’ve used wildflowers as the focus. Each alphabetically represents the couple – a cornflower for Celia and a marsh marigold for Matt.

I would love to do more of this sort of work, so get in touch if you have something in mind.

I am so pleased to be currently showing my letter stamped illustrations at Red Lion Books in Colchester. My work will be up until the end of April, giving you a chance to see my work up close to spot those letters and to understand a little of how it’s done. It’s also an opportunity for you to buy some of my work too, with framed and unframed prints available as well as cards and a few of my screen printed cushions. If you can’t find your letter, I have more in my studio and I am always open to creating commissioned works tailored to your wishes if you’d like something a little different. My illustrations make a great gift with a unique personalised touch for birthdays, christenings, anniversaries (with a date/number instead of a letter).

Red Lion Books is a lovely independent book shop on Colchester High Street. It houses two floors of a vast range of books for both children and adults. Why not have a browse while you visit the exhibition.

New wedding stationery, design and gift ideas

I’m really pleased to announce I have added a Weddings and Occasions section of design to my portfolio. It seemed an obvious route to take considering my use of significant dates with a date stamp to build and create images.

For a few years now I have taken commissions which were destined for wedding gifts, often depicting the venue of the marriage, but in January I was asked by a lovely client to create a design for her wedding invitations (above). I jumped at the chance, because I have been wanting to try something like this for a while. Similarly to previous commissions, the client asked if I would create an illustration of the place where they will be married with their wedding date. It did require a different approach however, because my usual method is one that results in a work which is not wholly obvious how it was created. You find you must get up close to the work to see that the image is made up of numbers rather than a pencil or pen.  For this project I needed to make the date or individual numbers clearer and larger in relation to the entire design so the date really pops out at you. To create this effect I had to simplify the design, you can see this, in particular, with the circular lawn at the front of the house. A design like this doesn’t have to be restricted to just the date. It would work just as well with the initials of the couple and in fact I have included the initials of this couple as a subtle addition to the design in the bottom left corner.

I really enjoyed working on this project, it was a pleasure to be tasked with such a special commission and I hope to add lots more to this particular portfolio. If you’re interested in having a totally unique design for your wedding, christening, birthday (or any occasion!) stationery, which turns the actual date of your event into a beautiful illustration, contact me here to discuss it further. In the meantime check out my Weddings and Occasions page here for ideas.

I will be amongst lots of fantastic illustrators and printmakers, and you can see and purchase some of my Alphabet Animal illustrations, as well as pick up a few of my greeting cards and tote bags.

Twin Alphabet Animal Commissions

Two new commissions I was asked to do for twins. Both illustrations are made up of their date of birth, rather than ‘T’s or ‘J’s as with my Alphabet Animals series.

I was commissioned to do a wedding gift for a couple, who were married at Micheldever Church in Hampshire. This one was slightly different to previous commissions of this kind, because I was asked to incorporate various identifying features of what is a very unique looking church. The octagonal nave and wrought iron gate are two of these features, so I included the beautiful interior ceiling of the nave and the arch of the gate as corner flanks to my depiction of the church. I love doing these architectural pieces, and you will hopefully see more of my own self-led work on this subject…

New commission – wedding gift idea

Leanne commission flattened smallI’ve just completed a new commission headed for some newly weds, depicting the place they were married, stamped with their wedding date to build the image. This is a great idea for a wedding gift, giving your friends or members of your family a unique gift commemorating their special day in the very material of the image. In years to come there’ll be no excuses for forgetting their anniversary!
